Draft Day Grades - Bottom Half

WatchBlog here.  Let's get to the bottom half grades of the 2014 CFFFL draft:

7.  (tie) Bedford Gamers - C
The Bedford Gamers were last year's surprise team of the year, and had the best regular season of the year before getting knocked out late in the playoffs. Coming off such a successful campaign, the pressure was on Durlon "I dominate Fantasy Football - now I have a new girlfriend - Coincidence?" Bryant to turn in another impressive performance. The draft went well for Bryant, but a reach at WR in the 3rd round cost him a higher draft grade. Perhaps new love has thrown him off his "game." Only time will tell.

7.  (tie) BattleOstriches - C
The BattleOstriches were another team that had to go into draft day without their league manager present to make the important decisions. But with the number 1 overall draft pick, it would be hard to mess up. Cue Matt "Overwhelming consensus means nothing to me" Johnson, and his specific instructions to his wife drafting in his place. While Calvin Johnson was a top-tier WR that the Ostriches snagged, this decision, and several other bad ones to follow meant that every other starter picked up was 3rd-tier or worse. Not exactly a recipe for success. But then again, who ever heard of good Ostrich recipes?

9.  Stay Puft Marshmallow Men - D+
Consistently good teams, and a berth in the 2013 CFFFL championship game, meant the expectations were higher than ever for the Stay Puft Marshmallow Men and Cindy "This is so easy I'm going to draft for 2 teams, just for the challenge" Cook. While the Marshmallow Men might look good to the untrained eye, WatchBlog has downgraded many of the once great talent that fills CCook's roster, and none of her starters actually break into the top tier, and two land in tier-5. The Marshmallow Men might look good on paper, but count on a few good roastings along the way.

10.  Dallas Plowboys - D
It has taken 4 years to happen, but the Dallas Plowboys have finally completed a draft without including multiple Dallas Cowboy players on their roster. A top-tier non-Cowboy RB and a 2nd-tier non-Cowboy QB signaled a new age in the Norman "I will NOT cut players when I mean to bench them, I will NOT cut players when I mean to bench them..." Cook drafting philosophy. However, drafting a backup QB in the 3rd round and a Defense in the 5th when he still had critical starting positions to fill quickly led to a poor backend of lower tiered starters. It remains to be seen if his top picks can carry his lower picks to victory, and also if NCook can go all season without inexplicably cutting them.

11.  (tie) StJohn - F
Team StJohn was the final team that was in the difficult position of drafting without their manager present. Gary "You know the popular saying: Tight Ends win Championships" St. John was WatchBlog's last place drafter in 2013, and he followed it up with a repeat performance in 2014. First the positives: He got the best TE in the game. He got a 3rd-tier QB. Now the negatives: That QB's name is RGIII, and he might not survive the first half of game 1. Every other starter is 4th-tier or worse. Prospects do not look good for St. John, but he did a good job last year of outperforming his poor draft during the regular season. Let's see if he can do it again.

11.  (tie) MotherBoy - F
After competing for the inaugural CFFFL Championship in year 1, MotherBoy has followed that effort up with 2 consecutive seasons with no playoff appearances to show for it. WatchBlog correctly predicted last year's poor showing by ranking their 2013 draft as 10th out of 12. It could seemingly only get better in 2014 for Gary "Draft clocks mean nothing to me, sort of like Draft Preparation" Cook. Oops. This year's last place drafting position signals yet another mediocre year for the Commish. With a roster filled with Seattle Seahawks, perhaps he is confused and trying to win an NFL Championship instead. Regardless, with no top-tier starters, and 3 starters in the 4th, 5th, and 6th tiers, MotherBoy might want to keep his eye on the waiver wire.

And thus concludes this year's WatchBlog draft grades. You don't  have to agree with WatchBlog's tier system, but you'll just have to start your own blog if you wanna complain. Good luck in 2014!

WatchBlog out.
