Issue 10 - 2011

(WatchBlog McGee is a fictionalized blogger but reports on actual, flesh and bone, real-life fantasy football leagues.  This year, he is embedded deep in the CFFFL, and will be periodically blogging on league matters.)

WatchBlog here again. Quite an exciting finish in the CFFFL tonight.  A couple of come from behind wins and almost a 3rd.  Let’s get to it.

The Comeback Kids

Two teams came from behind in dramatic fashion to pull out a late win.  Quail Hunters hunted down Easily Offensive thanks to strong performances by Calvin Johnson and Matt Forte.  Amanda “I make my own roster moves, so eat it” Cook out maneuvered David “I’m just gonna focus on my other fantasy team now” Cook for the exciting win and the new lead in the 5 Cooks division.  Another exciting late win kept Cute Little Puppies as the lone undefeated team in the CFFFL.  Cindy “Pierre Garcon?  Really?  Where did that come from?” Cook’s Leftovers were leapt over for their second loss of the season, but while dropping to the 4th ranked team in the CFFFL, they will still remain second within their division.  Said Stacy “I’d save a puppy’s life over Michael Vick’s any day” Cook excitedly stated after the game: “...the Vick led Leftovers they beating they so richly....”  Well said S Cook, well said.

Ho Hum...

Two other games this weekend offered little excitement Monday night, as no real challenge to the games’ leaders ever materialized.  Cousin Mose & Me had another mediocre scoring performance, but was still able to win easily over the quickly falling Lions.  The lack of points will cost the Cousins though, as a new tie with Quail Hunters in the division will give the division lead to the higher scoring Hunters.  Gary “It’s easy to make roster decisions when half your team is on a BYE” Cook added a little interest to the game by taunting Matt “How have I won 3 games with no decent running backs” Johnson for his failed attempt at a 3 WR attack.  The Lions’ chief did not dignify the comment with a reply.  The other game that was never really in doubt on Monday matched the Honey Badger up against the 47ers.  WatchBlog doesn’t have the energy to rip the Badger anymore this week.  I’ll just say, as everyone expected, they lost.  The improving 47ers got a much needed first division win, and are still clinging to the last CFFFL playoff spot.  Jerry “I like to smack talk games I’m not even playing in” Cook has gotten a little cocky with his newfound success, and proclaimed he would outscore both of the highest scoring CFFFL teams had he played them in week 5.  He was wrong.

Too close to call

In the most exciting finish of the CFFFL season, the PlowBoys came up a fraction of a point short of catching the Hottez wit da bodiez in the last seconds on Monday night.  1 more yard into the end zone prior to the clock expiring, and the PlowBoys would have captured their second win.  As it stands, unless league stats are corrected for players participating in the contest in the PlowBoys favor, Hottez will have prevailed by the thinnest of margins, and won their second game of the year.  The win will put Lauren “Look what happens with a little effort” Cook just one spot out of the playoff picture after 5 weeks of play.  Norman “Joseph Addai’s pulled hamstring may hurt him, but look what it did to me!” Cook’s team falls to 1-4 for the season, and will remain last in the 5 Cooks division, but overall, still ahead of the Badger.

Issue 9 - 2011

(WatchBlog McGee is a fictionalized blogger but reports on actual, flesh and bone, real-life fantasy football leagues.  This year, he is embedded deep in the CFFFL, and will be periodically blogging on league matters.)

WatchBlog here again.  Well, the entire CFFFL schedule this week has at least one team with players still playing on Monday night, but there are still several games in progress worthy of comment.  Let’s get to it.

The much maligned Honey Badger is continuing to thumb a wet nose at all critics by refusing to make a single roster move in 5 weeks time.  Even an appearance by a confusing, yet menacing Chronos, could not compel the league’s youngest CFFFL manager to make a handful of computer key strokes before noon on Sunday.  The indifference not only resulted in an empty roster spot at the Badger’s WR position, but the Badger’s 2 bench RBs put up over 50 points, which if substituted for his starting RBs would have insured a first CFFFL victory for Andy “Did anyone seriously think I was gonna put any more thought into this beyond my team name?” Cook.

The highest scoring game of the weekend thus far has been (no surprise) between the two highest scoring teams in the CFFFL, Cute Little Puppies and Leftovers.  Thanks to a mediocre day by Cute Little Tom Brady, the Puppies are in danger of losing their first game of the season.  The rest of the league will be watching closely to see if Stacy “I didn’t realize QBs were allowed to score less than 20 points” Cook can pull out a late game victory tomorrow night.  Interestingly, (at least to fantasy fb nerds) the Leftovers will not vault the Cute Little Puppies into the 4 Cooks and a Johnson division lead, even with a win, unless they beat the Puppies by 23.59 points or more, which appears unlikely. When asked if she was aware of the points she need to win by, Cindy “Do I look like a fantasy fb nerd to you?” Cook allegedly said: “No seriously, do I look like a fantasy fb nerd to you?”

The two lowest scoring CFFFL teams also met this weekend, and the game is still too close to call.  Hottez wit da bodiez made some very needed roster moves prior to the game, and has a decent lead going into tomorrow night.  However, the PlowBoys, who have finally gotten a taste of victory, are poised to make a late Monday night charge for their second win of the season.  Given his heavy Dallas Cowboy influenced team, Norman “is Roger Staubach eligible to draft?” Cook will have pulled off a minor miracle if he is able to win a game on a Cowboy BYE week.

Special Edition 2 - 2011

(WatchBlog McGee is a fictionalized blogger but reports on actual, flesh and bone, real-life fantasy football leagues.  This year, he is embedded deep in the CFFFL, and will be periodically blogging on league matters.)

WatchBlog here again.  Special issue time.  Too much CFFFL news to cover in normal post-game issues.  Let’s get to it.

Timekeeping mechanical plant overlord?

A new voice has inserted itself into CFFFL matters, and most in the league seem to be scratching their heads over it.  The new “observer” released a written statement earlier this week in which he identified himself and criticized those league managers apparently ignoring their team.  He then laughed evilly, but in print it looked more childish than anything.  It took two days, but the Commish eventually responded to the new critic, blaming a rogue spammer for infiltrating the league, and somehow landing the credentials of Co-manager for Cousin Mose & Me.  Commissioner Gary “It’s too complicated to click ‘Remove Co-manager’ under ‘Edit Team Settings’” Cook has declared that the “bad man” is here to stay for the time being, and has suggested that other league managers simply ignore him.  The Commish response could be best described as “neutered.”

WatchBlog too right to ignore?

The appearance of Horace “want some free candy?” Chronos suggests that WatchBlog’s embedded reporting is finally being noted.  It is doubtful that the issue of league manager indifference would be addressed by anyone, much less a  deranged spambot, had WatchBlog not been reporting on the issue for weeks.  Some within the league believe “Chronos” is nothing more than a hired gun, employed by the Commissioner in an attempt to encourage participation that the Commish was to weak to do himself.  WatchBlog has also been reporting on the Commissioner’s possible corruption, but it may be that what appeared as corruption was simply ineptness.  While the appearance of this shadowy Chronos figure is difficult to accept, or really even understand, it might not be such a bad thing if the result is that a couple of managers actually turn on a computer once a week for 5 minutes...

WatchBlog answers his critics

WatchBlog has been called out by some CFFFL managers for a “lack of research” after I made speculative comments about other managers that might be neglecting their league duties.  WatchBlog was merely commenting on league trends, and did not claim any inside league sources regarding his observation.  I have however, been taking the time to research the CFFFL league schedule to examine just who has the most to benefit from the lack of participation by Honey Badger.  (*NEWSFLASH* there has been a Lauren “Fine, I don’t want to be as lame as my little brother” Cook sighting as Hottez wit da bodiez last night made some roster moves to field a complete team for week 5).  WatchBlog has looked at the BYE week opponents of the Honey Badger, and the lucky teams who face them during the BYE week stretch are the 47ers, Cute Little Puppies, PlowBoys, & Lions (Leftovers also faces the Badger in week 9, but the Badger has no players on a BYE that week.)  Given the massive logjam currently for the last playoff position, 1 easy win for any of these teams could mean the difference between playoffs and an early season end.  WatchBlog will continue to follow this developing story, albeit in a rather neutered manner.
