WatchBlog here again. Halloween provided quite a spine tingling ending to week 8.  Let’s get to it.

Underdog has its day

Week 8 was a good one to be an underdog in the CFFFL.  After the league worst Badger knocked off The Lions on Sunday, the lower seeded teams continued to give the higher seeded teams fits into Monday night.  Even the 4CJD leading Puppies were not immune to the trend as they fell hard to the surging Leftovers, without so much as a whimper.  The underdog Hottez were also on pace to overtake the Cousins late on Monday night, and probably would have had it not been for a late game injury to RB Ryan Matthews.  While the Cousins escaped the bite of the week 8 underdogs, the 47ers did not, as they lost in dramatic fashion to the bottom dwelling Offensives.  After the dust settled, 3 of 5 week 8 CFFFL games were won by the team with the worse record.

Don’t dress as a Quail for Halloween

WatchBlog’s pick for the best CFFFL team through the first half of the season did not disappoint in week 8, and became the first team in the league to reach 7 wins.  After beating the PlowBoys, the Quail Hunters are now alone at the top of the CFFFL in record, and have a 2 game lead in their division with 5 to play.  Amanda “Sure, I’m left-handed, I just don’t go on and on about it” Cook has her team hitting on all cylinders, but faces the new look Offensives in week 9 who happened to be the 2nd highest scoring team in week 8.

Change is good.

The first CFFFL trade of the year likely would have not changed either week 8 result for the teams involved, but going forward, both teams have addressed consistency issues at weak positions, the Cousins at WR, and the Offensives at RB.  It is too early to tell which team will benefit the most from the trade, but rest assured that WatchBlog will be tracking the traded players performance for the balance of the season.  It will be interesting to see if other teams attempt to improve through trade rather than just free agency, but then again, you can only trade if you have something someone else wants.  Sorry, Lions...

Issue 15 - 2011

WatchBlog here again. Only one game is officially over early this week.  Let’s get to it.

Revenge of the Badger

Honey Badger started their 7 game losing streak with a loss to The Lions in week 1.  It seems only fitting that they end their streak of futility with a win over the same team.  Just as WatchBlog predicted one day ago, the Badger has found its first victim of the season and knocked Matt “Well I knew it had to end sometime” Johnson’s team out of the 4-way tie for the 3rd best record in the CFFFL.  While The Lions fall to 4-4, on the season, The Badger’s record improves to 1-7.  When asked to comment on their first victory of the season, Andy “Dont give a !@%$” Cook allegedly said “if you want a comment, just refer to whatever nickname you give me.”

Things that Go Bump in the Night

Late last night, the CFFFL had its first player trade of the year go through.  The trade was officially approved after midnight on Saturday, and involved 4 players on two teams, Cousin Mose & Me and Easily Offensive.  The Offensives sent WR Jeremy Maclin and QB Ryan Fitzpatrick to the Cousins, and in return received WR Roddy White and RB LeGarrette Blount.  The Cousins were able to immediately plug both players into their lineup, and both helped the Cousins to a very respectable lead which they will try to hold onto while the Hottez play their remaining players tomorrow.  The Offensives’ new players are both in a BYE in week 8, so instead of plugging in new players they had to replace the departed Maclin with an underperforming WR DeSean Jackson.  The loss of points might prove to be costly, as the Offensives are in a tight contest with the 47ers headed into the Monday night game.

If being right is wrong, then I don’t want to be right... wait, what?

Right on the heels of WatchBlog’s controversial ranking of the 4-3 Leftovers ahead of the 6-1 Puppies, the two teams met in week 8.  WatchBlog appears to have hit on something, as the Leftovers have a commanding 57+ point lead going into tomorrow night. If the Puppies do not pull off a miracle comeback with their 2 remaining players, it will be only their second loss of the year, but also their second in a row.  The second half of the season appears to be shaping up quite differently from the first.  As always, WatchBlog will be there to help point out the new trends as they emerge.
