Issue 18 - 2011

WatchBlog here again. Some serious shifting in playoff rankings has occurred after week 9 games.  Let’s get to it.

Blowing Hot

In the past 2 weeks, 3 teams that had been cold have become hot, while 3 other teams have become cold.  The playoff race has become very interesting as a result.  The Cousins, Offensives, and the Badger have all gone on 2 game win streaks, and now, the Cousins have risen to the 3rd seed in the CFFFL, the Offensives have sneaked into the 6th and final playoff spot, and the Badger, likely needing to go undefeated for the rest of the season to do it, is making an improbable run on the post-season.  With the Badger and Offensives facing off in week 10, we shall soon see which team’s momentum will carry forward.

Blowing Cold

In the same 2 week time period, 3 other teams have gone on 2 game losing streaks: The PlowBoys, who 3 weeks ago pulled off a nice upset win, the Lions, who were defying the oddsmakers with a winning record, and the 47ers, who looked to be a team to be feared, have all lost their magic touch, and of the 3, only the 47ers still hold on to one of the cherished CFFFL playoff spots.  With 4 weeks to go, all 10 CFFFL teams “mathematically” have a chance of reaching the playoffs.  For some, “mathematically” can best be translated as “snowball’s.”

It’s tough at the top

The 3 teams at the top of WatchBlog’s week 8 Power Rankings had mixed results in week 9.  The Leftovers were leapt over by the Cousins in the playoff seedings when they got badgered to death by, well, the Badger.  The top ranked Hunters also were “offended” by a 2nd loss, some might say rather “easily,” and as a result lost the number 1 seed in a tiebreaker (by 1 fantasy point.)  The team that overtook them was the wounded Puppies, who regained a little swagger by ending their 2 game losing streak in convincing fashion over the 47ers.  Next week, the Puppies will meet in what some are calling “The Domestic Violence Bowl II” vs. the Cousins, which should have major implications on the playoffs, as well as in the Commish home office.

Issue 17 - 2011

(WatchBlog McGee is a fictionalized blogger but reports on actual, flesh and bone, real-life fantasy football leagues.  This year, he is embedded deep in the CFFFL, and will be periodically blogging on league matters.)

WatchBlog here again. Only one early game this weekend, but we already have one upset and more to come.  Let’s get to it.

Renouncing the Throne?

In a complete surprise, we had a new team don the robe of apathy, and field an incomplete team in week 9.  While there was aYahoo! computer glitch this week that resulted in the entire CFFFL being blocked from picking up any free agents starting at 11 am on Sunday instead of noon, this wouldn’t explain why The Lions didn’t fill in their BYE holes with already acquired bench players.  Whatever the reason, the result was an easy win for the Hottez, and the first time of the season that The Lions aren’t sitting in a playoff spot.  In fact, Matt “I really shouldn’t take what a fake blogger says about my team too seriously” Johnson’s Lions will likely fall 2 spots in the CFFFL standings to the 8th seed, behind the pesky Hottez, who will leap frog them in the rankings.  Lauren “I call lists ‘obscure’ when I don’t like what they say” Cook could not be reached for comment due to pressing “Video-on-Demand” commitments.

Things that make you go “Huh?”

There were two odd, head-scratching transactions in the days leading up to the on field action this week.  The first took place late on Wednesday night when the Cousins and the 47ers traded QBs.  Unfortunately, neither QB is any good, so the deal really amounted to nothing.  In fact, the Cousins cut their QB as soon as they acquired him, and the 47ers, who only needed the QB for a BYE week replacement, actually lost a point because of the deal.  The second head scratcher occurred on Friday, when the active PlowBoys released TE Jake Ballard to eventually pick up TE Jermaine Gresham.  Not a bad move on it’s face, however, Gresham ended up being inactive due to injury.  To make things worse, the 12 points Ballard got this week would have been very helpful to the PlowBoys, as they trail their game by 11 going into Monday night... “Doh!”

The times they are a changin’

The underdogs are again challenging the top dogs in week 9.  In 3 out of 5 games, the lower ranked team has won or holds a substantial lead.  The CFFFL has all ready seen one team fall out of a playoff spot, and who will take that position will be decided tomorrow.  The top seed also looks in jeopardy, as well as other teams that have been promoted as the cream of the league.  We won’t know for sure until late tomorrow, but look for a shake up in the standings once week 9 is in the books.
