Week 8 - Monday in Review

WatchBlog here.  Only 1 team was able to complete a Monday night comeback.  Let's get to it.

3 for Me

Why the Left Fielders had 3 Defenses on their roster, WatchBlog doesn't know.  But with stud WR AJ Green on a BYE along with WR Anquan Bolden, their recent trade of WR Percy Harvin left Cindy "I was worried about the girls beating the boys, but now it's every woman for herself!" Cook down to only 1 WR for week 8.  A quiet trade with the Quail Hunters allowed her to get rid of an extraneous Detroit DEF, and pick up WR Lance Moore for a 1 week fill in role.  The 2.5 points from Moore ended up not factoring in, but with the Left Fielders mired in a 3 game losing streak, in such a close game, every point felt vitally important.  Her opponent, MotherBoy came into the match on a 2 game winning streak of their own, and had recently been anointed as WatchBlog's top Power Ranked team through the first half of the season.  They responded by immediately losing.  Gary "Maybe my kids have the right idea - at least BYE players don't get you negative points!" Cook suffered his 3rd loss of the season, but was able to hold  on to 1st place in the 3CBCD.  The favored MotherBoy seems to get everyone's best shot, and will have another challenge next week against the hottest team in the league - Easily Offensive.  Ain't parity great?

...and 3 for You

The worst team in the 5CD is the 47ers.  They have the worst division record, the lowest total points in the division, and the worst overall record in the division.  But somehow, at 3-5, they are only 1 game out of a 4-way tie for 2nd place in the division - and they are on a league leading 2 game win streak to boot!  How Jerry "My luck is so bad, I can't even throw a game when I try to!" Cook managed to score a season low for his team, and still win, is baffling - and the Quail Hunters actually had a full roster.  Amanda "I traded who now for what now?  Man I've gotta change that password..." Cook strangely traded for a better defense, only to leave them on the bench.  Not sure what the reason for that could have been since the team already had 2 DEFs on the roster.  WatchBlog would launch an investigation, but can't find the energy to care that much about roster moves involving DEFs.  The Hunters are now at 4-4 and in a 3-way tie for 4th in the league.  While all 3 are currently in playoff position, with 3 more teams within a game, one of those 3 teams could easily end up the odd man out.  After watching their pathetic week 8 output, I'd guess the Hunters are destined for oddity.

Deja Vu?

The Honey Badger and The Gamers started the season with a week 1 battle, and to everyone's surprise, The Gamers came out on top.  The Badger had one of the strongest drafts, and The Gamers, well, they drafted Cutler in the first round.  But the Badger doesn't care, especially when playing lower rung teams.  In three losses, the Badger has lost to the 47ers once, and The Gamers twice.  Against the rest of the league, they are 5-0.  But that's what you get when you let a Badger manage a team in your fantasy league.  Andrew "does this mean I've joined the ranks of the noobz?"  was only 5 minutes away from a victory in the week 8 rematch, but fell short.  WatchBlog isn't talking about game time minutes, but rather the 5 minutes prior to noon on Sunday, which is all it would have taken for him to adjust his roster and replace his BYE week DEF and earn 12 more points in a game he lost by 3.  Durlon "I've always wanted to pwn a Badger!  Can I play them every week?" Bryant now sits in a 3-way tie for 7th place, and only 1 game out of a potential playoff slot.  In week 9, he'll face the tough challenge of playing his sister's team, the league dominating Sugar Gliders.  But a fortunate schedule means he'll face them in Tom Brady's BYE week.  Did I mention the greatness of parity?

Stuck on 88

The Sugar Gliders are in a groove, and by that WatchBlog means stuck in one.  At 7-1, the team is running away with the league while the remaining teams beat each other.  However, the team's offensive output has not been as high as it was in the first few weeks, and for 3 weeks in a row, the team has stalled at 88 points.  Only one of those weeks resulted in a loss, but the trend is disturbing, and with a Tom Brady BYE week in week 9, Shoshana "Phillip Rivers was your starter?  No wonder you sucked" Cook might be in for her second loss of the year.  Her week 8 opponent, the Cow Pokes, lost to the Gliders by benching the NYG DEF on a week they were playing the Cowboys - a reverse Cowboys curse.  The 22 points that DEF earned would have given Norman "all I wanted for my birthday was a Cow Pokes and Cowboys win - maybe next year" Cook an easy victory, but at 4-4, they are still in the thick of the playoff fight.  Strange as it is to say, with the team records so tightly packed, almost everyone in the league is as well.  Parity for all!

Week 8 - Sunday in Review

WatchBlog here.  4 games are within 16 points with one player to go - 1 isn't.  Let's get to it.

Every Dog has its Day(s)

In 1 1/2 CFFFL seasons, no team had broken the 140 point barrier in a single week.   Over that same time period, Easily Offensive had averaged only 85 points per week.  Given that meager offensive output, no one would have guessed that this team would be the one to reach that impressive total in week 8.  But this isn't the same Easily Offensive we've come to know.  A massive turnover in the roster through trade and free agaency has revitalized the cellar-dweller of the league, and for the past two weeks, has, unbelievably, created the highest scoring team in the league.  David "Tampa Bay is my new favorite team" Cook has a 103 point lead going into Monday night, and could shatter the league record for largest margin of victory currently held by the Cute Little Puppies in a win last year over, you guessed it - Easily Offensive.  Hottez wit da bodiez was the latest victim of the turbo-charged Offensives, and possibly conceded the loss when they were down by 83 points 3 days before they even played their first player.  Lauren "Josh Freeman is such a Hottez - why would he do this to me?" Cook will fall to 3-5 on the season, and only 1 game ahead of Easily Offensive.  Easily Offensive will have it's toughest challenge since the re-birth when it faces off next week against current 3CBCD leader MotherBoy.  This game will separate the Mothers from the Boys.

WatchBlog will have to wait on the Monday night results to weigh in on the remaining games.  WatchBlog out.
