Week 3 in Review

WatchBlog here. Well, parity is alive and well in the CFFFL. Let's get to it.

Week 3 saw 2 undefeated teams lose, 3 winless teams win, and it's first "tie."  WatchBlog puts the "tie" in quotation marks because, even though the scoreboard for week 3 shows a Plowboys Motherboy tie, the standings reflect a Motherboy win. With no tiebreaker listed for regular season games, Commish Gary "I LOVE ESPN for its ease of use, and, more importantly, for its undying commitment to insuring I win this league, no matter what" Cook will have to explain why the standings error has occurred and what can be done to correct it. Norman "stat corrections are my new best friend" Cook was trailing at the end of play on Monday, but a revision to player stats by the football powers open up a chance for him to salvage a tie for the game, and also a tie for second in his division. How the Commish and ESPN will prevent that from actually happening is yet to be seen.

The most surprising result of week 3 came in the he matchup between one of the best teams in the early season and one of the worst. Josh "so this is what it feels like to lose, huh?" Cook and his Juggernauts were favored to win over the winless StJohns, but came up just short as Gary "it took 2 seasons, but Crabtree is finally paying off" St John pulled off the huge upset. St John is now in a 3 way tie for 2nd in the Moe division, while the Juggernauts slip into a 1st place tie in Larry. The 3 Stooges themed divisions for this year seems more appropriate by the week...

If you like a winless team upsetting an undefeated team, week 3 was just for you, as it happened twice. The second upset was the No Appeal defeat of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Men. Cindy "Ryan Tannehill is looking really good right about now" had the lowest score of the young season, despite coming in to the week as the highest scoring team. Only her TE broke double digits, and her D/ST had more negative points than her QB had positive ones. Ouch. The beneficiary of this pitiful output was David "Now that I picked up Kirk Cousins, I'll NEVER have to worry about QB interceptions again!" Cook and his now tied for second in the Moe division team. He should enjoy that feeling while he can.

The only undefeated team that survived week 3 was NotAbootDwayne, who faced off against the 1-1 BattleOstriches. The Ostriches had several bench players outperform starters, but the most painful mistake for Matt "well, at least I didn't waste a number 1 overall pick on Matt Stafford" Johnson was not playing the Colts D/ST over the Hou D/ST who were out scored by 18 points. With an 11 point loss, that had to hurt. John "so when do I get this trophy thingy, anyway?" Cook opens up the only 2 game division lead in the league, and is now the team to beat in the CFFFL.

The other team to best in the early season is the current points leader, Team Poppins. This should come as no surprise, as this team was drafted by the same guy who drafted 2 out of 3 previous CFFFL Championship teams. Amy "thanks for the team Daddy" Cook put up an impressive 127 points in week 3, and took down the Bedford Gamers who with 91 points, were the 2nd highest scoring team in week 3, but still lost. Durlon "I'm beginning to think someone doesn't want a Bryant to hoist the Cook championship trophy..." Bryant has scored the second most points in the CFFFL, but is still just tied for 3rd in the Larry Division.

The reigning CFFFL champs finally got their first win of the season, and did so at the expense of the league's draft guru Jerry "Mel Kiper doesn't have any Super Bowl rings either, does he?" Cook and The Phoenix. Both teams are now 1-2 as are 7 out of 12 CFFFL teams. Shoshana "so you're telling me there's a chance..." Cook and Team You Wish may be tied for last place in division Larry, they are also only 1 game behind the division leaders. Buckle up boys and girls, this just got interesting.

We'll see what other ways the Commish rigs this league for his benefit. Until then - WatchBlog out.
