Playoffs Round 1 in Review

WatchBlog here. We are down to 4. Both higher seeds won, but at the cost of 2 CFFFL heavyweights. Round 2 has already begun. Let's get to it.

Round 1

Coconutycrazy has had an unconventional season. The brand new team focused on drafting a balanced team, and all necessary bench players in order to go a whole season avoiding the waiver wire. The strategy played out perfectly as Cosette "what is a waiver wire?" Cook is now just 1 win away from the CFFFL Championship game after defeating the formidable NFL-NIP(NotInPrison) 98-75. Cindy "I'm sure I was clear that children could play only if they didn't beat me" Cook's team did not show up in this Wild Card playoff round, specifically her New Orleans Saints QB/RB 1-2 punch who couldn't even break 7 points between the 2 of them. The Crazies will advance to take on the only team in the playoffs with a Championship pedigree - No Punt Intended and Amanda "Maybe the Amanda Family FFL is a more accurate name for this league" Cook. Should be an exciting semi-final match up.

In the other Wild Card round, the 2 top scorers faced off in an early round slug-fest. In a heart-breaking loss, Draft King went down to his little brother's team for the 3rd time this season, when Jerry "The GM" Cook didn't fire Jerry "The Coach" Cook before he could bench Tom Brady for Ben Roethlisberger which cost his team 29.54 points in a game he lost by 29.22 points. Ouch. That's a real kick in the King's jewels. As for the Russian Hackers and David "Wait, can't I just play the Draft King every week?" Cook, they will move forward to a Round 2 match up with Josh "Julio Jones may have put up a zero, but it's better than Dez's -1" Cook's Juggernauts in a battle which will feature 2 teams dealing with late season injuries. Which ever team manages around those injuries the best will advance to the CFFFL Championship.

The Finals are next week, and then WatchBlog will un-imbed for another off-season. Not sure which event is more anticipated. WatchBlog out.

Week 13 in Review

WatchBlog here. It took 13 weeks, but the CFFFL has concluded the regular season, and CFFFL playoff season is here. Let's get to it.

Week 13

It came down to the wire for a few teams, but after all the dust settled, fittingly, the 6 highest scoring teams through 13 games were the final 6 that will advance to the CFFFL playoffs. However, there were some upsets, as neither of the 2 highest scoring teams, Draft King and the Russian Hackers, finished with the most league victories, so neither finished first in the league, nor did either receive a 1st round playoff BYE. And to add insult to injury, they will face off against each other in the 1st round, from which only 1 will advance. As they are both dangerous and high-scoring teams, this is good news for the rest of the playoff teams.

In what can best be called "Streaking into the Playoffs" the 6 CFFFL playoff teams each won their week 13 match up with the exception of the overall point leading Draft King, who, though they lost, still put up the 3rd best score of the week, and only lost to another playoff team, the runner up in points and CFFFL East Division Champion, Russian Hackers. Jerry "I'd have gotten away with winning this league if it wasn't for that meddling kid brother of mine!" Cook, having lost both regular season battles with his youngest brother will have a 3rd attempt to defeat David "I love a good Scooby Doo omage, don't you?" Cook when they meet for the 2nd consecutive week in this week's 1st round Wild Card Matchup.

Other playoff bound winners included number 1 seed Amanda "I don't know why everyone thinks being a Champion is so hard" Cook and No Punt Intended, who defeated former CFFFL Champion John "Why didn't you let me quit after my first year" Cook and Max 20 Characters in a blowout. The win propelled No Punt Intended to the overall top spot, and a 1st round BYE. They will await the winner of the Crazy/NotInPrison game in round 2.

Speaking of NotInPrison, also winning headed into the playoffs was Cindy "I don't mind playing pre-teens... unless they win" Cook and NFL-NIP(NotInPrison) had a close game with Asher "I'm still making roster moves after being eliminated, it's just what I do" Cook and The Cloudy Navigator, who both needed the win and a loss from another team to improve their final ranking. Only 1 got the win, but neither got the loss from the other team they needed, so neither moved in the rankings. The Cloudy Navigator will have to settle for being the best non-playoff team in their inaugural season, and NFL-NIP(NotInPrison) will face another pre-teen in the 1st round to try an advance to a match up with North Division foe No Punt Intended in round 2.

The pre-teen next up for NFL-NIP(NotInPrison) will be Cosette "If I knock her out of the playoffs, will that make our next Aunt Cindy Day awkward?" Cook and Coconutycrazy who defeated The Gamers, led by Durlon "The real question is - how did I actually win 2 whole games?" Bryant who finished dead last in the league and a full 2 games behind the next closest team, and was the only CFFFL team to not break the 1000 point benchmark in total points. As for Cocounutycrazy, their first year in the league was a surprising success, as they won 7 games, finished in the top six in scoring, won their division, made the playoffs, and were the only team that made 0 post draft acquisitions. Their 1st round match up with NFL-NIP(NotInPrison) will determine how many more surprises this team has up their sleeve.

Josh's Juggernauts made a statement to finish out the regular season by putting up their highest single game point total for the season in a defeat of Gary "Remember when I was a good team and leading my division - yeah, that was cool" St. John and Gary's Team. Juggernauts leader Josh "Remember when I lost to Motherboy - yeah, that was NOT cool" Cook has won 5 out of his last 6 games, and earned a #2 ranking and a BYE with the win. He will await the winner of the Hackers/King match up in round 2 of the CFFFL playoffs.

In the only week 13 game that didn't feature a playoff team, Motherboy faced off with Normans Playboy Team in a game that could have resulted in a playoff berth for the Playboys if their win had coincided with a Coconutycrazy loss. It didn't, but Norman "How 'Bout Dem Cowboys?!" Cook rallied from possibly the worst rated draft in CFFFL season to win 6 games, and come extremely close to a CFFFL West Division title and a trip to the playoffs. Motherboy chief, Gary "Remember when I beat the Hackers and the Juggernauts for 2 of my 4 wins - Yeah. Season. Made." Cook will have to wait yet another year to claim that elusive CFFFL championship trophy.

Final Standings

CFFFL Playoffs

Should be 2 great 1st round match ups. Obviously, those will be the WatchBlog Games of the Week. If you didn't know that, you should probably just stop reading this blog. WatchBlog out.

Week 12 in Review

WatchBlog here. Well, here it is. The final regular season game in the CFFFL is upon us. 4 teams are in, 4 more are fighting for the last playoff spots. Should be an intense last week. Let's get to it.

Week 12

Some teams showed up big in week 12, while others laid an egg. After the dust settled, the CFFFL playoff picture cleared up quite a bit, but there are still 3 Division crowns up for grabs, and 4 teams who are in, but don't know their playoff seeding, and 4 teams that won't even know if they are in or not until week 13 action is complete.

The team that showed up the biggest was NFL-NIP(NotInPrison) who put up the biggest single game point total for the league this season in an important game that pulled Cindy "I've been saving the best for last" Cook into a tie for the division lead in the CFFFL North. It was unfortunate for the Draft King, as they put up an impressive 125 points to give Jerry "I outscored Motherboy by 6 and Yahoo! give's him an A and gives me a B? Maybe I should stop caring what grade Yahoo! gives me..." Cook the second best score of the week, but nothing but a loss to show for it. Both teams need a win in week 13 to win their division, but unfortunately for them, none of those big point totals can be carried over.

Speaking of Motherboy, Gary "this is for all the Garys out there - well, except you..."  showed up big as well, defeating Gary's Team and eliminating Gary "If I had to be taken out, I'm glad it was by a Gary" St. John from any playoff hopes. St. John also was eliminated from any chance of winning the CFFFL South when Josh "I won my division before anyone else won theirs! - so... there's that..." Cook's Juggernauts knocked off Coconutycrazy and delayed Cosette "you said I'm definitely going to win my division - NOW you're telling me I might NOT?!" Cook's inevitable division crown one more week. While it is possible it won't happen, a win against the lowly Gamers in week 13 is all that is left to hoist that division banner. (No - there's no actual banner - it's just a saying...)

Speaking of The Gamers, they laid the biggest of eggs in week 12 by only scoring 48 points, and losing to Normans Playboy Team, who STILL CAN MAKE THE PLAYOFFS. Durlon "I don't deserve a nickname this week" Bryant kept the dreams alive of Norman "remember when you all scratched your heads when I drafted Tim Hightower - who's scratching their heads now?" Cook who needs a win and a loss by Coconutycrazy to win the West and sneak into the CFFFL playoffs. It may be unlikely, but so were every one of the Playboys' 5 wins this year.

The other playoff bubble teams are the Russian Hackers and The Cloudy Navigator. They are the last 2 teams with a shot at the last remaining Wild Card Playoff spot and both won in week 12, meaning the answer of which team gets in won't be answered until week 13 is in the books. The Hackers and David "I created this league this year just so I could win it. If I don't make the top 6 - maybe we'll have 7 playoff teams this year. That sounds fair..." eliminated Max 20 Characters and John "If half my team is on another team's playoff roster - I sort of made the playoffs, too - right?" Cook by 44 points in the biggest blowout of the week. Meanwhile Asher "I've made 45 roster moves, and I'm just getting warmed up..." Cook took down the number 1 team in the CFFFL to remain in the Wild Card playoff hunt. No Punt Intended fell victim to the Navigator's final push for the playoffs, but Amanda "I'm still in 1st place - so, wake me up when the playoffs start" Cook only needs a week 13 win against Max 20 Characters to secure the No. 1 seed overall and a 1st round BYE.

Week 12 Standings

Here are the correct CFFFL standings after week 12:

What We Know

Here is what we know about the number of Playoff Teams from each division:
  1. The CFFFL North will have at least 2 teams in the playoffs but could have 3
  2. The CFFFL South and West will have exactly 1 team each in the playoffs
  3. The CFFFL East will have at least 1 team in the playoffs, but could have 2
Here is what we know about Playoff Seeding:
  1. The winner of the CFFFL West will be the 4th seed
  2. Whoever comes in 2nd in the CFFFL North will be the 5th seed
  3. All other seeds are up for grabs and could be held by numerous teams depending on week 13
Here is what we know about Playoff BYEs:
  1. No one from the CFFFL West can have a BYE
  2. Any possible division winner from the North, South, or East could have a BYE with the exception of the Hackers
  3. Draft King can only have a BYE with a win and a loss from the eventual division winner of either the North or South
Well, Week 13 should be an exciting finale to an exciting CFFFL regular season. Some will be in, and some will be out, and no one knows who until the final scores are in and WatchBlog will likely be back to sum it all up when they are. WatchBlog out.

Week 11 Standings

WatchBlog here. WatchBlog is on holiday, but here are the correct standings in the CFFFL: (Notice, 2 teams have clinched playoff spots, but no Division has been clinched. Also note that any Division leader who wins in Week 12 will clinch their Division, but any Division leader who loses in Week 12 could face losing the Division with a loss in Week 13.)

As best as WatchBlog can figure, here is what each team needs to make the playoffs/or secure a BYE:

1. No Punt Intended - Will clinch Division with a win or loss by NFL-NIP. Will clinch BYE with a win or a loss by Juggernauts

2. Draft King - Will clinch Division with a win or loss by Hackers. Will clinch BYE with 2 wins or a win and a loss by Juggernauts or a win and 2 losses by Intended

3. Josh's Juggernauts - Will clinch Division with a win or loss by G's Team. Will clinch BYE with 2 wins and 2 losses by Intended or 1 loss by King. Will clinch playoffs with losses by Characters, Navigators, and Hackers.

4. Coconutycrazy - Will clinch Division with a win or loss by Playboys. Will Clinch BYE with 2 wins, a win by Kings, loss by Prison, and 2 losses by Intended.

5. NFL-NIP(NotInPrison) - Will clinch Division with 2 wins and 2 losses by Intended. Will clinch BYE with 2 wins and 2 losses by Intended and 1 loss by Juggernauts

6. Russian Hackers - Will clinch Division with 2 wins and 2 losses by King. Will clinch BYE with 2 wins and 2 losses by King and 2 losses by Juggernauts

7. Max 20 Characters - Can't win Division. Will clinch playoffs with 2 wins and 2 losses by Hacker or Prison.

8. Gary's Team - Will clinch Division with 2 wins and 2 losses by Juggernauts. Will clinch playoffs with 2 wins and 2 losses by Hackers and 1 loss by Characters

9. The Cloudy Navigator - Can't win Division. Will clinch playoffs with 2 wins and 1 loss by Hackers, Characters, and G's Team, or possibly with losses by just 2 of those teams along with 2 losses by Prison. (It's getting a little complicated...)

10. Normans Playboy Team - Will clinch Division with 2 wins and 2 losses by Coconutycrazy.

(WatchBlog does not warrant these projections as accurate, but only for entertainment purposes.)
Happy Thanksgiving! WatchBlog out.

Weeks 8-10 in Review

WatchBlog here. It's been quite a while since WatchBlog has been able to post about the CFFFL, but it's time to try and catch up. Let's get to it.

Week 8

Week 8 saw the formerly No. 1 ranked  Russian Hackers crash and burn against the No. 2 ranked No Punt Intended. With a big win by the formerly No. 5 ranked Draft King, that meant the CFFFL East division lead changed hands for the first time all season, and put the Draft King in the number 1 overall rank, leap-frogging No Punt Intended who remained at No. 2. With the loss, the Hackers dropped to 6th overall due to their head to head loss in Week 6 against the previous holder of the the No. 6 rank, NFL-NIP(NotInPrison) who moved up a spot to No. 5. The remaining playoff spot continues to be held by Coconutycrazy, who despite their week 8 loss, still holds a 2 game lead in the CFFFL West.

Week 9

Week 9 saw the Russian Hackers (No. 6 overall) continue their spiral with their 2nd loss in a row, this time to the surging Josh's Juggernauts. The win put the Juggernauts in a 2-way tie for the second place record in the CFFFL with No Punt Intended, who maintained their No. 2 ranking despite a Week 9 loss. With the Juggernauts holding at 3, NFL-NIP(NotInPrison) and Cocunutycrazy holding at 4 and 5 respectively with their Week 9 wins, no changes at all occurred in the playoff rankings, and that continued down the line for the whole league, as none of the Week 9 results improved any teams ranking, although several races tightened.

Week 10

No one had to tell CFFFL fans what the week 10 game of the week was going to be, as the best 2 teams in the CFFFL faced off with 1st place at stake. Amanda "Finally, some nicknames - it's about time" Cook and her No Punt Intended squared off against Jerry "Crickets..." Cook and Draft King. Draft King was entering on a 5 game win streak, but was facing the 2 time CFFFL champion who was fighting to maintain a Division lead in the tightest division race in the league. Not unexpectedly, the game was the closest game of the week and No Punt Intended squeaked out a 5 point victory to retake the No. 1 overall ranking based on a head-to-head advantage over the King who fell to 3rd place with the loss.

Entering the week in 3rd place, Josh's Juggernauts took down Durlon "is this season over yet?" Bryant's 11th place The Gamers, and now have the hottest win streak going in the league at 3. Josh "I do better when WatchBlog isn't blogging" Cook has a 2 game lead in the CFFFL South division with 3 games to play, and with a match up with the worst team in in the CFFFL coming up, looks destined to secure a playoff spot shortly, and is currently sitting as the 2nd ranked team in the CFFFL.

In 4th place, Coconutycrazy has her own 2 game win streak to impress, and has opened up a 3 game CFFFL West Division lead with only 3 games to go. Cosette "Thanks for letting me win all these games, this is really easy" Cook would have to lose out, and see the 3-7 Normans Playboy Team win out to lose the division at this point. 1 more win from her, or 1 more loss from Norman "My Dallas Cowboys are going to win another Lombardi Trophy, y'all can have fun trying to win this one..." Cook and the West is officially won.

5th place is still held by NFL-NIP(NotInPrison) but they are neck and neck with No Punt Intended for the CFFFL North who they lost to in Week 1. As the 2 teams play again this week, Cindy "I've beaten No. 1 Teams before - it's kind of my thing" Cook needs the win or will have a near impossible task of snatching the North Division lead from her daughter.

The final and 6th playoff spot is currently held by the Russian Hackers and David "Seems like WatchBlog fails to blog in the weeks immediately following a loss by my team - weird..." Cook, who had a nice comeback win over Gary "I may have lost my 4th game in a row, but at least I didn't have to watch Cam Newton under-perform while doing it" St. John's Team, and has climbed to within 1 game of the Division lead in the CFFFL East. That division likely won't be decided until Week 13, but only if the Hackers take care of business this week against Asher "How come the other kid in this league got 2 of the worst teams in her division and I got 2 of the best?" Cook and The Cloudy Navigator.

Those were the top 6 teams who would make the playoffs if they started today. Only 2 teams have been eliminated - Motherboy, and The Gamers. Some have only the longest of shots, but 3 are within 1 or 2 games of a playoff spot. Bad news for those teams is that there are only 3 games left to play.

The Commish came out and clarified that Yahoo! is misreporting the actual standings. Here are corrected standings for Week 10:

Division games are critically important this year in the CFFFL, and we have 3 weeks filled with them. Hold on to your hats. WatchBlog out.

Week 7 in Review

WatchBlog here. Halfway through the season, and all 4 divisions have only 3 games or less separating the top from the bottom. The division crowns are up for anyone to take in the second half, and that starts today. Let's get to it.

Week 7

The number 1 WatchBlog Game of the Week did not disappoint as a late game comeback decided the match in exciting fashion. The 8 point win gave Coconutycrazy a 2 game cushion in their division, and their 4-3 record is now respectable for the holder of the #3 playoff rank. Manager Cosette "I don't know what a 'post-draft acquisition' is and no one can make me learn" Cook is now only 1 game back of the league leaders, and with them playing each other in Week 8, could find her team tied with the loser entering week 9. Now that's (coco)nutty.... As for Amanda "Hmmm, was that deposit on my glass trophy case non-refundable?" Cook and No Punt Intended, the loss cost her the #1 CFFFL ranking, and places her in a tie for the most wins in the CFFFL North. Their schedule has been brutal as they will next face a 4th CFFFL division leader in as many weeks, and, with a loss, could lose claim to the North Division lead for the first time all season, something else you can bet this team never "intended."

The 2nd WatchBlog Game of the Week was not as close, but it did involve 2 teams that are tied at the top of their respective divisions in season wins. Gary "You're never too old to be grounded" St John and his Gary's Team were dismantled by his daughter's team, NFL-NIP(NotInPrison). For Cindy "I want it stated for the record that I also dismantled the Russian Hackers in Week 6 - just sayin" Cook, the 5 game winning streak is the best in the league, and brings her into a tie for most victories in the CFFFL North. If her current level of play continues, a division lead is sure to follow.

Here are the Week 7 Results:

And the Week 7 Standings:

Week 8 - WatchBlog Games of the Week

The second half of the CFFFL season starts off with a bang, as every week 8 match up is worthy of attention.

For starters, the top 2 ranked teams in the league, Russian Hackers and No Punt Intended, face off with the number one ranking at stake, as well as the possible loss of a division lead, as each is tied in wins with another team within their division. David "A 1/2 season is probably all we need to set the playoffs - how 'bout we call it good?" Cook and Amanda "Are you trying to punk out, Commish? - or was No Punk Intended?" Cook have both led their divisions since Week 1, and the loser just might end that streak after Week 8.

Speaking of teams that are tied for wins in their division, The Draft King will face Gary's Team with both needing the win to assure they, at minimum, maintain those ties. Jerry "I haven't received a cease and desist letter from any copyright attorneys for Draft Kings... yet" Cook hopes to defeat his Father-in-Law Gary" I checked to see if anyone had copyrighted my team name, and surprisingly, the answer was no" St. John in a battle that could knock either team out of a playoff spot with a loss.

Speaking of losing, the 2 last place teams also face off in Week 8, and the loser will be guaranteed a losing season record, and will almost certainly lose any shot at making the playoffs. While both Gary "I'm not just unlucky, I'm also really bad" Cook's Motherboy and Durlon "I'd be 17-60 if I played every team every week - is that bad?" Bryant's Gamers are just 3 games behind their respective division leaders, a winning record is usually the benchmark needed to gain a playoff spot. Neither team can achieve that without winning all of their remaining games, which makes this game a must win for both.

Speaking of must win games, both Josh's Juggernauts and Normans Playboy Team must win to assure their places within each of their divisions. Josh "I strongly believe in proper punctuation in team names" Cook must win to assure at least a tie for wins in the South, while Norman "Team name punctuation? Meh..." Cook must win to remain within 2 games of the West Division lead. The Juggernauts have outscored the Playboys by over 120 point this season, but you never know when the "Boys" will come out to "Play."

Speaking of playing, in a match up of the very first pre-teenaged managers in the CFFFL, Coconutycrazy and The Cloudy Navigator face off in Week 8. Cosette "I probably have no idea my starting RB had surgery on his knee today" Cook will try to stay above .500 and protect her 2 game West Division lead against Asher "I'm not gonna tell her, are you?" Cook, who needs a win to reach .500, and to close the 2-game gap between him and his 2 division rivals in the North. Or maybe they'll both ignore the game and eat some more delicious candy.

Speaking of delicious, a tasty match up in Week 8 features 2 teams making a late run after an ugly start to the season. NFL-NIP(NotInPrison) started the season off 0-2, but have since rattled off 5 straight wins. Max 20 Characters had an even worse 0-3 start, and have rallied by winning 3 of their last 4. Cindy "It would have been nice to know there is a limited number of characters you can use before I chose my team name" Cook can possibly take claim to the North Division lead with a win, while John "Ummm, I think my team name made that restriction pretty clear..." Cook could pull within 1 game of the division lead in the East with a win and some help.

Every division looks like it will come down to the wire. This week begins the home stretch. Be ready. WatchBlog out.

Week 6 in Review

WatchBlog here. A Husband-Wife team gave notice they are on a mission to claim the top spot in the North and East divisions, and the South division lead changed hands for a second week in a row. Let's get to it.

Week 6

Only 3 teams scored over 100 points in Week 6, and all 3 used those winning scores to advance to a 4-2 record, and all 3 are locked in a tight division race. While WatchBlog is on record as saying the toughest CFFFL divisions were the South and East, the North is proving WatchBlog wrong by sporting the number #1 ranked team, and also the most wins by teams in a single division through 6 games. With just 7 weeks left in the regular season, WatchBlog is issuing a WatchBlog Alert to watch out, as the road to a CFFFL championship looks to run straight through the North. As for the Week 6 - WatchBlog Game of the Week, the up and down South Division leading Juggernauts faced the cold winds of the North when they battled No Punt Intended. When the dust settled, the Juggernauts and Josh "I really enjoyed leading my Division, it was the best 7 days of my life" Cook were no longer the South Division leaders, and were no longer holding a playoff spot. Amanda "When do I get my trophy?" Cook, on the other hand, became the first team to reach 5 wins, and increased her lead in the race for the #1 overall playoff seed.

Speaking of Trophies...

And Results...
Week 6 Results
 And the standings...
Week 6 Standings
Week 7 - WatchBlog Games of the Week

2 Games of the Week for week 7. First up is the top-ranked No Punt Intended taking on a 3rd rival division leader in as many weeks when they battle the quietly West leading Coconutycrazy. Amanda "I'll just go ahead and start clearing a spot for my trophy - maybe I should invest in a glass case..." Cook hopes to knock off cousin Cosette "Wait, is this season still going? When do I get to win football?" Cook in what should be a close match up. Both teams need the win or could face a challenge for their division... oh, who are we kidding, the West Division is safely in the hands of the Coconutycrazy. This game won't change that.

The second Game of the Week matches the streaking NFL-NIP(NotInPrison) and Cindy "Glad I got all the losing out of the way in the first 2 weeks" Cook against her father, the current South Division leading Gary "I'm updating my will next week, just something to think about..." St. John and Gary's Team in a match up that will surely have playoff implications for both teams. Both are coming off their best scoring performances of the season, and both need the win to keep pace in their division, so the fight should be on.

Lots of good action coming up as we cross over the halfway point. WatchBlog out.

Week 4 and 5 in Review

WatchBlog here. WatchBlog was out last week, so double issue. Let's get to it.

Week 4

Well, Week 4 left the CFFFL with 0 undefeated, and only 1 win-less team. Lots of upsets, 3 out of 4 division leaders lost, and the 1 that won did so by a margin of less than 1 point (against that aforementioned sole win-less team.) That's what we call a crazy weekend. Other than the CFFFL North division leader barely scraping by with a win, there was 1 other close game, and it was, you guessed it, a WatchBlog Game of the Week. It was a matchup of two 2-1 teams, both second in their respective division, and each battling to remain in the playoff hunt, as each held 1 of the 2 last playoff eligible rankings at 5 & 6. Coming in ranked 5th was the Draft King, led by Jerry "I may have lost the game, but I got an A+ grade from Yahoo! - so there's that..." Cook. Despite trailing in the game by 54 points going into Sunday Night, and with only 2 players remaining, the King mounted a valiant comeback effort, that only fell 2.5 points short of catching Josh's Juggernauts, managed by Josh "I only picked Julio Jones because I love 'J' themed alliteration - who knew he'd be so good?" Cook. With the win, the Juggernauts vaulted over the Draft King into a 5th place ranking, but the King maintained a playoff spot as of Week 4 by only falling 1 spot to 6th place in the league. Despite all the upsets, no huge other changes in playoff positioning occurred, but don't forget, there are still 9 weeks to go in the CFFFL regular season, and many more crazy weekends to come (e.g. Week 5 below.)

(Yes, there was another WatchBlog Game of the Week, but it was a 30 point blow out where Asher "Don't call me Trish!" Cook's Cloudy Navigators easily defeated Norman "You all thought I drafted Dak Prescott way too early - look who's laughing now!" Cook and his Playboy Team. Guess it wasn't so much of a Game to Watch after all.)

Week 5

WatchBlog still here. Lots of changes in the CFFFL playoff rankings after Week 5. A former number 2 no longer holds a playoff spot, a former cellar-dweller is now in control of a wild card spot, there is a change atop the CFFFL South, and the number 1 overall ranking changes for the first time all season. Let's get to it.

While WatchBlog's absence last week meant no WatchBlog Game of the Week previews for Week 5, there were still plenty of intriguing matchups. At the top of the list were 2 games between division leaders - the North vs. the South, and the East vs. the West. 3 games also featured a Parent - Child matchup, 1 featured a Grandparent - Grandchild pairing, 1 featured a Sister-in-Law - Brother-in Law match, and, then there was an Uncle-in-law - Brother-in-Law once removed - um, no, make that a Grandfather, and an unrelated Truck-Driver - err, no, well, they are both either a Great Uncle or Uncle to the same 11 year old girl, so we'll call it the "Battle of Uncles."

East - West Division Leader Showdown (aka "The Father-Daughter Dance")

The CFFFL East Division leading Russian Hackers and David "I really love watching my child succeed - but I'll take watching her get crushed by me for this one week as a consolation" Cook recovered from their 1st loss of the season by downing the West Division leading Coconutycrazy captained by Cosette "I'm probably going to make the playoffs, and I don't know what a first down is - crazy right?" Cook who has now lost 2 in a row, but still sits atop the weak West Division.

North - South Division Leader Showdown (aka "Grandpa Got Run Over by a Grandkid")

Perrenial CFFFL contenders No Punt Intended put their new #2 overall ranking, and their North Division lead on the line as Amanda "As long as I don't beat by Grandfather by 100 points, Christmas won't be awkward, right?...whew, that was close..." Cook destroyed a BYE week handicapped Gary's Team, coached by her Grandfather, Gary "Outscoring your own bench by 60 points is good... unless your bench scores 0" St. John, who, with 2 losses in a row, not only lost his #3 overall ranking and his grasp on the South Division lead, but also his hold on a playoff spot. With the impressive point total and win No Punt Intended jumped ahead of the Russian Hackers, and claimed the #1 overall CFFFL ranking.

Faher-Son (Smack) Talk

2 Fathers faced their sons in Week 5 but with mixed results. Normans Playboy Team scored an impressive 107 points, but Norman "Wait, Tony Romo gets his job back when he's healthy? Uh oh..." Cook had an unlucky match up against his son Jerry "So Yahoo gives me an A for winning and scoring 7 more points than last week, when I got an A+ in a loss - that makes total sense" Cook and his Draft King team who improved 1 spot to a 5th place overall ranking with the win. The other Dad, Josh "odd numbered weeks I score under 100, even numbered weeks, I score over 120, and I'm a nerd for knowing that" had more luck winning with a score of  94 points when his Juggernauts defeated his son's team The Cloudy Navigator and Asher "I can't believe none of you are accepting my awesome trade offers - oh, except you, thanks Grandpa" Cook. With the win, the Juggernauts took over the South Division lead.

In-Law In-Fighting

Two traditional powerhouse teams who have been on the outside of the 2016 CFFFL playoff hunt looking in, faced off in Week 5. Cindy "Look who's relevant again" Cook and NFL-NIP(NotInPrison) climbed back from an 0-2 start to capture hold of a playoff spot by defeating Brother-in-Law Gary "I dropped the Hustle, maybe I should have dropped the Owner" Cook and Motherboy, who showed life in their first win in Week 4 against the Hackers, but fell back to their losing ways in Week 5. The Hustle-less Motherboy remains in 11th place while dropping to 1-4.

Say Uncle?

The 10th and 12th place teams faced off in Week 5 in what neither team hopes amounts to the Irrelevant Bowl. While they might both be called Uncle by a niece or great-niece that manages in this league, neither is ready to say "Uncle" and give up on their 2016 CFFFL season, or are they? John "If I can't give my grandson awesome players for next to nothing, what kind of grandfather am I?" Cook and Max 20 Characters got his second consecutive victory when he took on Durlon "I've only scored over 80 points once, is that bad?" Bryant and The Gamers. The Gamers remain in the CFFFL cellar while Max 20 Characters climb to 8th place, just 2 spots out of the playoffs.

Week 6 - WatchBlog Game of the Week

The North and South Division leaders met in Week 5. Well lo and behold, with a different South Division Leader in the mix, wouldn't you know it, but the North and South Division leaders meet again in Week 6. Both teams are 4-1, both have jumped in rankings after Week 5 victories, and both have teams in their division nipping at their hills, just a game back in the standings. Amanda "I'm really good at puns - and fantasy football, or should I say, 'pun-tasy pun-ball' - (ok who writes these quotes, cause that was DEFINITELY NOT me...)" Cook's No Punt Intended will take her new #1 overall ranking and face off against the Juggernauts of Josh "I happily beat my kid last week - (ok, seriously, who is making up these quotes, cause I would NEVER say that...)" Cook, the new #3 ranked team, and current leader of the CFFFL South. The winner will take a step toward solidifying playoff seeding while the loser might lose their grip on their own division lead.

Week 3 in Review

WatchBlog here. The 1st round of division play has ended, some early division leaders have emerged, and to top it off, a blockbuster trade has happened. Let's get to it.

Week 3

No surprise, but the only 2 competitive games in Week 3 were also WatchBlog Games of the Week. There were only 2 games decided by less than 15 points in Week 3, and both games had division leads on the line. In the East, the Russian Hackers beat their projection for the 3rd week in a row, and took down CFFFL East Division rival, Draft King, in a heavyweight showdown. Despite the loss, Jerry "So when I win, my rank drops - when I lose, my rank rises - got it" Cook's Draft King maintained their position as a Wild Card team, and even moved up 1 spot from 6th to 5th place. CFFFL Commish, and Hackers' owner, David "I'm pretty sure I told everyone I was going to use my Commissioner powers to ensure I win, so what's everyone so upset about?" Cook wasn't the highest scoring team of the week, but still holds the highest point total for the season, and a current No. 1 ranking.

At No. 2, the team ranked just below is the only other undefeated team in the CFFFL, and is alone at the top of the CFFFL South. Gary's Team and Gary "I'll start 2 TEs, and still beat you" St. John took an unconventional approach, but still knocked off the Juggernauts, led by Josh "I have trouble finding 1 TE to start, so thanks for rubbing it in" Cook, whose 2nd best player in Week 3 was his kicker - always a bad sign. With the early season divisional games in the books, the CFFFL East and South not only have the No. 1 and 2 ranked teams in the league, but they also sport the 2 wild card playoff positions at 5 and 6, but that may soon change. (Read below for more on that - if you dare...)

Here are the final scores for Week 3:

And here are the current division standings:

Week 4 - WatchBlog Games of the Week:

You're very daring for reading on. Nice. With divisional play over until Week 10, Week 4 begins with a match between the best 2 teams who aren't division leaders. Both would be Wild Card teams if the season ended today, both just suffered their first loss of the season, and they both just exchanged the 5th and 6th rankings with each other after Week 3 play. Given all that, to say there is bad blood between these 2 teams would be an understatement (or a made-up statement, whatever the word for that is....)  Jerry "I just lost to my youngest brother, if I lose to my youngest cousin, it will be like being the eldest doesn't mean anything anymore" Cook and his Draft King team will hope to get back on the winning track when he faces Josh "I'm an eldest brother myself, so I find myself conflicted about who to root for this weekend - um, I'll pick me - conflict resolved" Cook and his Juggernauts. The winner of this game will maintain a CFFFL playoff spot, while the loser will possibly slip into the dreaded Consolation Round - a gruesome fate indeed.

2 teams that have a chance of claiming that coveted final Wild Card playoff position from the loser of WatchBlog's #1 Game of the week, will be facing off in WatchBlog's #2 Game of the week. The team in the best position to do just that needs only a Week 4 win to shock the CFFFL, and actually claim a playoff spot, if for only 1 week. That team is none other than Norman "If a seemingly non-existent draft strategy is wrong, I don't want to be right" Cook's Playboy Team, who, you heard it right, will actually be in control of a playoff spot with a Week 4 win. The team standing in the way of that seeming impossibility is rookie manager Asher "I just pulled off a trade of my 13th round pick for the number 1 overall pick in the draft, so, yeah, I'm not just playing around" Cook and The Cloudy Navigator. The Cloudy Navigator is currently ranked 9th, but with a blockbuster trade that scored him Antonio Brown, it might not be long before he will be a real playoff contender in his inaugural CFFFL season. Navigating out of last place in his division would be a good start.

Lots of inter-divisional CFFFL action this week. May the best divisions win. WatchBlog out.

Week 2 in Review

WatchBlog here. Some exciting, close games in week 2 CFFFL action, and week 3 could feature the best matchups of the year thus far. Let's get to it.

Week 2

WatchBlog picked another great game as his pick of the Week for week 2, as the 2 division leaders of the CFFFL East and West Divisions battled to a virtual tie by the end of Sunday night. Unfortunately for Cosette "My Dad says I'm grounded for losing to his division rival" Cook's Coconutycrazies, Monday happened. Trailing by less than half a point after the Sunday games, Jerry "So somehow I fall behind the team I just beat in overall rankings? Maybe I should start losing a few games..." Cook's Draft Kings just needed their last starter of the week to score practically any points at all on Monday night to secure the win - and they did just that. The 7 point victory means the Draft King remains undefeated, but due to tiebreakers, no longer holds the crown of the CFFFL East Division. For more on that, check out Week 3 - WatchBlog Games of the Week - about 2.5 inches down from right here.

Here are all the scores from Week 2:

Week 3 - WatchBlog Games of the Week

Oh look, you made it the 2.5 inches from above. Thanks for the effort. WatchBlog will try and make it worth the trip. There are 2 WatchBlog Games of the Week in the CFFFL, as the 4 remaining undefeated teams all face off against each other in an epic early season contest to settle the question of who should lead the 2 toughest divisions in the league. How can WatchBlog say they are the 2 toughest divisions? Well, the CFFFL South and East Divisions are the only divisions with undefeated teams remaining, and if the CFFFL playoffs were held today, 4 of the 6 playoff spots would come from those same 2 divisions, so, 2 weeks in, there's not much of an argument.

CFFFL South

With the title of CFFFL South Division leader on the line, the generically named Gary's Team will take on the more alliteratively named Josh's Juggernauts. The teams couldn't be more evenly matched, as their season point total differs by less than 5 points, and their projected points for Week 3 differ by only 2. While 2 undefeated teams enter this battle, only 1 undefeated team will emerge. (Well, unless there's a tie, but WatchBlog will ignore that highly improbable scenario for right now.) Gary's Team, managed by Gary "If 2 non-Cooks win this league in consecutive years, shouldn't we think about renaming this thing?" St. John will hope his consistently triple digit scoring team will be able to handle the week 2 scoring leader, Josh "My son is watching me up close and personal this year, I can't mess this one up" Cook and his up and down Juggernauts. It is impossible to know which team will win, but we do know that the winner will be undefeated in both league and division play, and will have an upper hand in securing both the South Division crown, and a first round playoff BYE.

CFFFL East

As we head East, (well, sort of, but don't focus on the geography) the second early division leader will be decided in a battle of brothers, young(er) vs. old(er). The Draft King will be out to right a perceived wrong after Yahoo! dropped him from a 2nd place ranking to a 6th place ranking, despite remaining undefeated. To make matters worse, the team knocking him from the top of the rankings was none other than the newly 1st ranked Russian Hackers, also known as his "Week 3 opponent." Jerry "Hey, I get 2 nicknames this week! - dang, I just wasted it" Cook's Draft Kings will hope to reclaim the throne of the CFFFL East from younger brother David "Ha! He just wasted a nickname commenting on it... oh... oops..." Cook's Russian Hackers who struggled to comeback and win by 1 point in a nail-biting Week 2 matchup after putting up the highest score of the season just one week earlier. It is only Week 3, but the high stakes of these games makes it feel like the playoffs are already here. Okay, not exactly. Everyone plays next week - win or lose, so the playoff thing was just a thing to say. Sorry, WatchBlog got carried away.

Should be a great weekend of fake football. Be sure and fake enjoy it. WatchBlog out.

Week 1 in Review

WatchBlog here. Week 1 was full of upsets, hurt feelings, and family in-fighting. But what can you expect in an all family fantasy football league? Let's get to it.

Week 1

Well, WatchBlog went out on a limb and called the CFFFL South and East as the divisions to beat. It should therefore come as no surprise that the South and East are undefeated against the North and West after 1 week of play. WatchBlog must know what he's talking about after all. Case in point - the "Week 1 - WatchBlog Games of the Week" did not disappoint when it comes to competitiveness. WatchBlog's picks to watch were the 2 closest games in the league as they were the only 2 games decided by a margin of less than 25 points. Unfortunately, only 1 of the 4 "best teams" playing in these matchups actually lived up to the hype. The other 3 put up a rather mediocre Week 1 performance. All results from Week 1 are below:

Mostly blowouts as you can see. The most surprising results came from the 2 biggest scoring teams, who were both projected to lose. David "Having suspended players makes roster decisions easy" Cook's Russian Hackers had the highest score of the week, and overcame a strong performance from Durlon "When do I get to start division play?" Bryant's The Gamers. The other, less surprising star was Amanda "I guess I'll win another Championship, it's been a while" Cook and her team, No Punt Intended who defeated Cindy "I blamed last year's draft on being the Commissioner, I wonder what I'll use this year?" Cook and NFL-NIP(NotInPrison). Already some exciting division races are forming, and this is only Week 1.

Week 2 - WatchBlog Game of the Week

Only 1 Game of the Week in week 2, as only 1 game matches 2 undefeated division leaders against one another. It's an old fashion East Coast - West Coast showdown reminiscent of a Notorious B.I.G. - 2Pac style bloodbath (but without all the Hip Hop and bloodshed.) From the East, Division Leader Jerry "So, you're saying Euless is East Coast?" and his Draft King team will try to stay at the top of the league and East Division when he takes on West Division Leader, Cosette "I can only assume 2Pac is some later iOS version of Pac-Man?" Cook and her undefeated team, Coconutycrazy. In their inaugural season, Coconutycrazy has never lost a game, and early projections have her favored to continue the streak. Maybe she's not so Coconutycrazy after all? Only time, and a bunch of NFL players knocking their heads against each other this weekend, will tell.

We're baaaaack...

The 2016 CFFFL kicked off it's new season on Sunday with a new Commissioner, a new draft location, new divisions, and a couple of new managers. Not sure if any of these changes are improvements, but, well... they are differences.

Keeping in line with the winds of change, WatchBlog is making some changes to his coverage of the CFFFL. For starters, no more WatchBlog draft grades. Let's face it, they are meaningless, inaccurate, and sometimes a little rude. Not that WatchBlog is going to stop being rude, but he'll reserve that for on-the-field, rather than draft day decisions. I mean, if you want meaningless Draft Grades, Yahoo! has already given you some, so enjoy those - for what they are worth.

Also, less is more. WatchBlog is going to try and be more consistent with his reporting this year, but with less coverage. Rather than a breakdown of every game, WatchBlog reports will this year focus on 1 or 2 matchups of significance. Again, you've got Yahoo! robot reporting to tell you what bad CFFFL coaching decisions were made from week to week, so let a robot give you the quantity of data regurgitation you desire. WatchBlog will focus on the quality analysis you've come to expect.

That being said, let's get to it.

All for one and one for... four?

The 4 divisions created by new Commissioner, David "winning elections and winning Fantasy Football Championships are obviously unrelated" Cook, are an interesting twist to this year, and as expected, this twist is already squeezing out some controversy. While the scheduling is now more consistent among the league, the more talented teams seem to have landed in 2 divisions, namely the CFFFL South, and the CFFFL East. (Nice creativity on the division names...) The projected (according to Yahoo! - so, whatevs) top 4 teams are split evenly with 2 each in the South and East. The lesser divisions, i.e. the North and West, (yes, I know some of you needed that spelled out for you) should have a Division Champ make the playoffs with a far less difficult road. However, according to projections (Yahoo! made-up ones, lest you forgot) still would land the best 6 teams in the playoffs - with the 2nd best teams in the South and East entering as Wild Cards. I guess the complaining and moaning will have to wait until some actual results start rolling in, not just fake projections.

Week 1 -  WatchBlog Games of the Week

Well look what we have here. WatchBlog was just talking about you. The best 4 teams are facing off against each other, in 2 all important division matchups in the CFFFL South and East. If Yahoo! projections were worth anything (no comment) these 2 games would undoubtedly be a preview of the CFFFL playoff semifinals 14 weeks away. In our first highlighted matchup, the CFFFL will see the 2014 CFFFL champ, vs a self-proclaimed draft guru, who has never won, but has drafted 2 championship teams in 2011 and 2012. John "I don't want to talk about 2015" Cook's Max 20 Characters will hope to regain his 2014 swagger after a draft that focused on the passing game and special teams, with less emphasis on a ground attack. He will take his high octane offense to battle against his biggest obstacle to the CFFFL East Division crown when he wages war with fellow CFFFL East Division-mate, Jerry "If only Jerry the GM would fire Jerry the Coach" Cook and Draft King team. The Draft King went with ground attack first, drafting 2 RBs in the first 2 rounds, and then picking up a tag team of QBs who might be the best 1-2 punch in the league. The King should be tough to keep out of the top of the standings, however, injuries and suspensions already plague his roster, and they could be his undoing before the season ends.

Our second powerhouse matchup for Week 1 will see a new "draft king" face off against a disgraced former CFFFL commissioner and league founder. Josh "I think I'm getting the hang of this Fantasy Football thing" Cook's Juggernauts will take the best rated draft of 2016 and try to win the challenging CFFFL South. The only team likely to stand in their way will be their week 1 opponent, the confusingly named Motherboy Hustler. The 2 teams are evenly matched, and it is no surprise as their drafts were similar - each drafted 2 WR and 2 RBs in the first 4 rounds, and a QB in round 5. Gary "I don't need my team name to make any sense" Cook will hope his 3 RB attack can overcome the Juggernauts' high flying 3 WR set, led by Julio Jones, in an effort to keep Motherboy Hustler from starting in the hole in the all important division standings. Between these 2 games, odds are we will be watching at least one CFFFL championship game participant, if not both. Of course odds change with almost no warning, so stay tuned to WatchBlog to know when any of these teams' dreams of hoisting the coveted CFFFL trophy (more on that later) are crushed along with an NFL collar bone.

Should be a great season for the fake reporting of fake football.
